Sedariously, is this bitch for real??

Hey everyone!! Our latest adventure started oddly enough with a disappointment. I received an email about Amy Sedaris, you know Amy from Strangers With Candy, coming to the Kessler Theater in Oak Cliff and I immediately tried to get tickets. Sadly I received the email the day before the show and the tickets were totally sold out. Richard and I went out for a drink after work that night and I told him about Amy coming and how it was sold out. A minor disappointment but another cocktail would easily wash the memory away. Richard went to get our next drink and I was scrolling through my Facebook wall and I see that our friend Todd has 2 tickets he is trying to sell to the very show we were just trying to forget about not being able to see. A couple of quick reply posts and texts and a few good karma points later, we have tickets to the show.

After work the next day we head to Bolsa for dinner and a couple beers before the show. I opted for the quail and Richard got the burger. Both choices were delicious. You can find out more about Bolsa in a previous post here. After our amazing dinner we headed down the road to the Kessler. The theater was opened in 1942 and was owned at one point by Gene Autry. It was hit hard by a tornado in the 50's and has been quite a few different things in it's life and closed in 1978 while it was a retail shop. Fnally reopening in 2009 as a multi-use facility. They have art shows, music and dance performances and what a great venue it is. I will get back on track now that the brief history lesson is over.

Just wanted to take a moment and say THANK YOU to all my readers around the world. This blog just hit 2000 views! Friday the 13th!

Hello again everyone and welcome to a quick recap of Friday the 13th and the madness that occurred. You will also get a peek of the end results!! When someone says Friday the 13th I am sure you either think of the horror movies or some sort of bad luck connection. We opted to think like lots of other people and thought, TATTOOS!! Elm Street Tattoos in Deep Ellum has a great event every Friday the 13th where they do $13 tattoos, you kick in a $7 tip and for a mere $20 you can walk out with a tattoo. They have an entire board of options and they all have "13" associated with them in some way. Now I am sure some of you are cringing at just the thought of tattoos and more of you are creeped out by getting a 13 on you, but we were pumped about it, so we went. Ridiculously Photogenic Guy

OK so I am sure you have all heard and seen the pic of the ridiculously photogenic guy that is viral all over the internet. If not, here is a quick breakdown. He was running a 10k and had his picture taken along the way. For those who haven't done a walk or a run before, they usually station photographers at the start and finish line to snap pictures of the runners so you can buy them after the race. I have included the image of the runner to the right of this text for all to see.  When I first heard this story, but before I had seen the image, I mildly fantasized that perhaps I would follow the link and magically I would see my pic. Disappointment set in quickly as I saw this wonderfully perky runner looking smashing during his 10k. I thought to myself, I have done plenty of runs and had plenty of pics taken, so why is this not a story about me???  After a little thinking, I figured it out. A virgin bridge and a gay bull? Believe it, or not.

Hey everyone, it is time once again for a trip down our memory lane. We have had a few busy weekends but we got to do some fun stuff and we got a super brief visit from one of our OKC peeps. Much love to ya Carlye!!

The Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge
Dallas got a pretty sweet looking bridge built recently, and as part of the big celebration they had, the Trinity River Levee Run was rerouted to allow the runners to run across the bridge. It was pretty exciting to run across and to know that (at least for now) we were told that nobody else would be allowed to run across it. It feels nice to be a part of a little history. The other exciting part about this run is that this was our first 10k (6.2 miles). We had done plenty of 5k runs so this was a nice jump up for us. We had done a 10k a few days before the race on our normal run thru the neighborhood to get a feel for timing and how we would feel afterwards. Our "test run" time was 1 hour and 17 minutes and our official race time was 1 hour and 3 minutes so we felt GREAT about that time. Running has become such a great part of our lives and it is a great way to socialize as well. Most of our new friends are runners, by luck, not design, so it is great to get to see everyone at these events and hang out at the wonderful beer gardens that are usually present post race. Up next on the racing scene will be the Dash Down Greenville. A nice St. Patrick's Day run with what I understand to be just a little alcohol involved. Can't wait! It seems impossible, but April 1st is the AIDS walk/run and that will mark 1 year of what I like to call "professional running".

Zombies, Mardi Gras and an Alphabet??

Hey everyone, time to catch you up on our most recent adventures. We did this Zombi Race in Dallas and it was a blast. Imagine hundreds of people running through downtown Dallas at night on a scavenger hunt/race and then add zombies. This race was a lot of fun and not so much a start to finish race like we have been doing so that was nice. You can see all the glowing necklaces of the runners inside the safe zone before the race started. We were all given 3 clues to solve and had to visit different locations across Dallas to received our stamps. I think by the end of it we had gone 6-7 miles. It was a beating by the end of it. We were able to complete the challenge and save the world from the zombie apocalypse, however we did become infected and became zombies ourselves. Upon returning to the safe zone with all our stamps and being declared infected, we went to the quarantine area where we were to be turned into zombies. I think the makeup lady was over it by the end of the night because as you can see, we got a squirt of fake blood and a tiny amount of black around our eyes. Oh well, we were dead tired after that and still had to walk about a mile to where the car was parked. This was probably the best part of the night as I think we made lots of people nervous as we walked to the car looking like we did. Hopefully this race comes back next year as we are sure it will be a million times better once they work their first time kinks out.

Our next exciting chapter was brunching before the Mardi Gras festivities in Oak Cliff. We went to Bolsa and enjoyed bottomless mimosas and an amazing brunch. Having had a couple mimosas already, I forgot to capture pics of our food but it was amazing.Richard had the chilaquiles and I had the quiche. I would recommend them both. It was a great place to eat and I can't wait to go back.

This is what happens with mimosas.

After brunch, we met up with our friends that we met at the Mardi Gras festival last year. Hard to believe it was our 1 year anniversary. The weather was nice and sunny so it made for a perfect day. Fast forward through a few beers and jello shots and it was time for the crawfish boil. So tasty, nothing like eating mudbugs!! The parade was pretty cool, we actually saw it this year. I think we were too busy drinking last year to be bothered with watching a silly parade. After the parade it was time for live music and dancing. This is the part of the evening when things got a little wild, but that is what block parties are for, right?? I got a fun t-shirt and LOTS of beads so it made for a great day with great friends. Only 12 months until next year!!

There will be big happenings over on the food blog starting next week as we begin a big project called "Eating thru the Alphabet". I will be making a post on the food blog talking about the project and how you, yes YOU, can help. So be sure to check it out.

Until next time kids, get out there and enjoy life!!!
